Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien.

When I first created La Dolce Vita, I made a promise to myself - this blog would be a fun thing, not a chore. At the time, I was a sophomore in college, unsure of who I was and where I was going in life, insecure, and attempting to find my way.  I can still remember trying to figure out this blogging thing and being unsure of what I wanted to write about, and what niche I wanted to cover (later on I realized that since it's MY blog, I can write about WHATEVER I want! Major win).

Throughout the years (!!!) of blogging, I've encountered all of you - some of the best, bravest, smartest, most fashionable, and beautiful (in and outwardly!) people I've had the pleasure of getting to know. People who don't blog don't get it - but we're all there for each other through the ups and downs (and pictures!) of life. The outpouring of love I've received from the blogging community through the good and bad things I've shared over the years has been unreal, and continually restores my faith in humanity.

Though I love you all (really!), I stuck with my promise - this was a blog for fun, not something that I expected to earn a living from, and I vowed that once it became something that I dreaded doing, I'd take a break, hence the months and months that have gone by with my lack of blogging. I'm not a good juggler, and I suck at compartmentalizing -- with my promotion to being a full-time teacher in January, juggling work with a social life has become a priority, leaving little time for blogging. I kept in touch with many of you via Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, which was good for the little hiatus, but honestly - I've missed you guys!

So now to catch up on the past few months... (Seriously, I can't waittt to read up on what you guys have been up to!).

In these past months I...

-Was promoted to a full-time GED teacher in my inner city school.
This has been the HUGEST blessing - I love everything about my job (despite being called a "fucking bitch" by a student the other day), and can honestly say that I wake up every morning looking forward to going to work. I have wonderful coworkers, enjoy dressing up for work (seriously, when I don't wear heels, the entire building is like, "Wow, Allison - you're actually a normal height today!" Apparently my shoes are notorious in my small building), and to say that I adore all my students would be an extreme understatement. I'll have to make a whole post on some of the absolutely hysterical things that have happened in class, because my coworker and I are contemplating writing a book called "Shit Our Students Say". (District would probably loveee that!).

-Bought a car with my OWN money.
Buhbye, to the BMW and Range Rover - I bought my first brand new car with my OWN money, aka with no help from mom and dad. This was huge in me working with a budget and figuring out what's within my means (though I won't lie - I really miss the in-dash GPS of the Range and the heated leather seats.. I did get a heated steering wheel with my new car though because there are some things I'm unwilling to give up).

Played in the city (many, many times).

Pretty bff.

We are mature.

Recovery drinks after trying to find a stolen iPhone in Manhattan.

Comfort food and drinks (we went a little overboard).

-Celebrated the first Christmas without Poppy.
All I can say is, it was a struggle, but we did it. His absence was noted, but we pressed forward and had fun spending time as a family. There were some silences, but also a lot of laughs - particularly when we received our cards from my Uncle Dom, who bought us Spanish Christmas cards -- he forgot his glasses when he went to the store, and didn't realize his mistake until we opened them up.

Muchas felicidadas en navidad.

I still can't figure out how my cousins are 6'1" and taller - no idea where that came from.

Merry Christmas, dog.

The educational system has clearly failed my brother.

Started to Combat Anxiety/OCD.
First step is admitting there is a problem - I'm not ashamed to admit that I do suffer from anxiety, and OCD that causes me to become anxious over silly things. I'd always thought it was normal that I had these feelings of anxiety or that I worried about silly things (that I even know are ridiculous!), and that I can't stop thinking about them. I'm learning how to work through this, and while I'm still a work in progress, I'm getting there! It was huge to start 2012 off with a promise to myself that I was going to treat myself better - and stop beating myself up over things out of my control.

Brought in 2012 with my Best.
I hadn't spent a New Years Eve with my best friend in YEARS due to us having boyfriends (mainly her having a boyfriend I didn't get along with), but this year we were able to get ready together, go out to dinner with her amazing family (I think there were 15 of us at dinner), and then go out to a New Years Eve party. There were lots of drinks, delicious food, and so many good times/laugh with my gorgeous best friend (who needs a boyfriend anyway!).

Biffs for 10+ years.

Drinking induced lesbianism?

Happyyyy 2012!

Everybody makes fun of me and says my feet are skeleton feet :'(

 We love 2012.

A lot. Had my shares of ups and downs (mostly downs), but I learned something powerful. Not everything that ends is my fault. My OCD/anxiety usually renders me practically paralyzed, obsessively going over every little tiny scenario that could explain what I did wrong - but I'm pushing past it. I'm learning that sometimes people suck, and it's nothing that I did wrong, it's just the way it goes. My head is high, and I'm loving myself more - and not needing someone else to feel fulfilled (but that doesn't mean I'm not having fun!). :)

-Celebrated a year of pescetarianism (aka fake vegetarianism).
Woohoo, meat free (minus fish!) for a year. I didn't think I could do it, but it's been easy peasy. I've experimented with different meat substitutes, and I now can make KILLER "beefless beef" tacos - even my dad, a huge carnivore told me that he loved my tacos. Mayjah win.

-Turned 24.
I celebrated with Tonya and the boys we were dating at the time - figures that now neither she or I are dating these guys, but it was fun at the time! We went out for a delish dinner (the boys had burgers, while she and I had salad with champagne dressing and butternut squash soup - the only vegetarian options for moi!) and drinks (Long Island Iced teas for the win). We then headed off to a bar, where I was treated to copious amounts of tequila sunrises and SoCo and lime shots - thankfully there was someone to carry me (seriously) to Starbucks, where I stood looking pregnant due to a belly filled with tequila and cupcakes.

-Started living on my own.
HUGE news, and lots of pictures to come! :) I was definitely born to be independent.

There are always ups and downs, but I'm learning - I'm learning to juggle, to mess up, to do things on my own, to own up to my mistakes -- and I learned/remembered how much I love/miss you all! ♥ I'll do my very best to post/comment more consistently because you all do mean a lot to me, darlings!

Congrats on your full time position - I know it's a tough job, as I was a NYC teacher for 5 years. Love your working book title!

It's fantastic to see you posting again and I love this comeback one for us. I'm glad that things are falling into place and that you're happy with what life is bringing you a the moment! I know I'm always torn when I can't blog, and as you noticed my posts have gone psuedo-tumblr because of they're so image heavy, haha. We should be IG pals, my username is nicolewhaat :D I adore seeing bits of peoples' lives through the photos. I can't wait to see your apartment!
Anyway, I hope we can catch up soon as well. So much has changed in these last 5-6 months! As a college sophomore, I guess that puts me in the position that you were when the blog started :) I've always been appreciative of your confidence and advice-- thank you for the friendship that we have created!

Hey now, good to see you back. I get the abscence-from-blogging deal, my posts are pretty far between compared to a lot of peoples and it's because I share the same mindset as you; I don't want it to feel like a chore to blog. I do it because I find it rewarding. Trying to blog when I'm not feeling it would only tar the whole thing for me.

MAJOR (or 'mayjah', as I've seen some say :P) kudos on becoming a full-time teacher. Well done, you deserve it. I'm glad to hear you're loving it too.
It's amusing, the shit kids say to each other. It's always a laugh when I walk into classrooms and see what kind of stuff goes on. Anyway, congrats again on your teacherfulshipness.

Congrats also on moving out and getting your own car, both huge steps to take. Hope you're loving both things and they're going smoothly.

Good to see you blogging again, I was pleasantly surprised to see your comment on my blog the other day, ha.

Take care.

I'm so happy to see you back here Allison! I've thought of you often, and just when I thought you'd disappeared off the face of the earth altogether, I'd see a tweet saying that you were at a Starbucks somewhere, and I'd think to myself, oh, she's OK, and at Starbucks :)
