How I Spent my Week-long Christmas.

I always feel like the holidays come and go way too quickly. Soon, Christmas will be a distant memory, as we begin to take down all the decorations and replace them with our regular decor, Christmas trees will lose their place of honor in the home, and will be tossed outside, and the new, exciting gifts will soon become mundane. The magic of the holidays will be lost, theoretically put on a shelf until next year.

To me, the holidays are all about family - putting aside all of the issues and problems, and just embracing time together. Luckily, with our family, based on busy schedules and trying to maximize time together (without rushing or stressing!), we celebrate Christmas with my dad's side of the family the Sunday before Christmas.

This year was no exception, in our week-long Christmas celebration.

There was time with family and friends:

What happens when your family hires a bartender for Christmas:

Family friends. (And I promise my brother owns other shirts!).

Lots of food:

My neighbor seriously made everything in the next two pictures for our family! Too cute.

Santa Claus from my mom's childhood in France, which now stands in the library.

And of course, lots of Christmas presents! (Don't worry, I didn't take pictures of everything!).

There were also a ton of books, DVDs (more Golden Girls and Law & Order SVU, yay!), games for Wii (including Just Dance 2, which my mom has been doing for HOURS every day - seriously), and apparently hints from my family that they think I am a super fatty, because I received Zumba for Wii, Gold's Gym Dance Workout, a weighted jump rope, a gym membership, and eight pound free weights. Cool! ;)

Gifts from Cooper always crack me up.

Stocking gifts!

Pat's wrapping jobs are really a thing of beauty (the first picture is of ONE gift).

At the moment, I am thoroughly enjoying the fact that I don't have to work for a week, especially since I have about sixty thank-you notes to write to all my students! (Not shown in the pictures was the ridiculous amounts of Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts giftcards - and when I say ridiculous amounts I am over $200 worth ridiculous! - and Godiva chocolates given to me by my darling students).

There is also shoveling to be done - for those who live under rocks (or I guess overseas - that's an exception), we got HIT on the East Coast by a ridiculous blizzard that has left us here in NJ with 20 inches of snow - ah! My parents cars were literally snowed into the garage, and Pat and my cars (which there is no room for in the three-car garage, boo!) were buried under at least 3 feet of snow (from all the snow that drifted with the wind, etc.). Crazy!

I hope that all of you on the East Coast are staying warm and safe, and that those of you on the West Coast are enjoying the lack of snow and shoveling! :) Can't wait to catch up on all your blogs and hear about everyone's holidays. I've missed you all!

Currently listening to: Keane - Bad Dream (I think this may be my most favorite song of all time - I never get tired of it and put it on almost EVERY CD I burn for myself!).

Looks like your Christmas was so much fun. We spent our Christmas with family as well. It's one of the only times in the whole year we see the whole family in one go.

And all the food looks so delicious!! Especially the biscuits.

Hellooo Allison!
Before I forget to ask, in reference to Olive's blog, do you shoot your blog photos with a Nikon? I love the quality and there's never a flash glare (my stupid Kodak tends to do that), and those food pictures... oh my, it's like food porn. Love it. If you're not sure what I mean, check out :D

Anyways, despite the stress that comes with the holidays, I love the mounting excitement it brings, and then... it's done. Boo! :( But not in spirit, right? We could all try to be a bit merrier during the year, haha. Your family is beautiful and your grandparents are endearing. And a bartender?! LOVE IT. All the gifts seem fantastic, and your students truly seem to know you and your adoration for coffee.
Sorry to hear that you're snowed in! Interestingly enough, the blizzard didn't move farther west than Albany, NY so nothing's too drastic where I live. Stay warm girl! I wish you a most spectacular New Year's, here's to all the possibilities for 2011!!

Cheers ♥,
p.s. I'm trying to blog more so I can keep in contact with you more often too!

Does this mean it's over? Regular decor??? OH NO!!!

But 2011 is right around the corner. And I am way excited for 2011. 2010 was a beautiful year, with so many amazing things that happened. (I mean, I met you, right?! :) LOL...But for real. Here's to celebrating 2010. And HERE'S for anticipating 2011. We'll do it together. It's gonna be fun, but messy. Most likely. Because that's how our lives seem to work as of late. Haha! OK, this comment is getting long, so I will be talking to you SOON.

Oh. Em. Gee. Where do I start?! Your grandparents are adorable - so is your whole family! And you got some amazing gifts. Those flats are perfect. I am going to go check them out after I am done commenting hehe! 75% of my gifts were for my puppy this year lol BUT it was a big help so I can't complain.

Seriously though, I want to go to your place next year! Your Christmas looks magical!! My family fights...and cries. It's a hot mess.

Happy 2011 :D

Oh yes! I am loving the Nikon ;), thanks so much for suggesting it to me. There's still plenty I need to learn about it, but it's definitely a great camera. I need to purchase a bag for it though, make it easier to lug it around and keep it better protected.
I'm glad you can pass along your collegiate wisdom to me :). It's really reassuring to hear that the freshman 15 isn't as fatal as they make it out to be.. I guess it's as long as you notice it and try to do something about it that makes a difference. Aw, thank you darlin', you are gorgeous yourself, I bet nobody even noticed the 20lbs since you're so slender to begin with ;)

Here's a late Merry Christmas and a happy new year, Allison! I love all of the photos you put up :), your family is adorable. I like calandar too! The food looks so delicious, I'm diggin' the giraffe utensils! This post is making me hungry :P. Great decorations, it's so neat how your neighbor made those cute little Christmas animals and that your mom brought the Santa back from France.
Lovely presents, it sounds like you'll be staying in shape this new year, hahah ;P. That's awesome though. Aww, I love that you get gifts from Cooper, that's adorable :). My parents always signed the pets names on the cards. Your kids are great!! They must really love you! Giftcards galore :D, you'll be set with Starbucks and DD for quite some time. You've got to be doing a good job in that classroom. I'm so glad to read that the holidays have been so good to you :).

Ps. After reading this I checked out that song 'A Bad Dream' and now you've got me hooked on it too haha.
